#201 Mac Queen's (Castle Brewery) - Nessie Original Red Ale

Another Austrian beer from Castle Brewery. I have trouble finding much info about the brewery or beer because it's from Austria.

The aroma of this beer is reminiscent of a lager with a metallic chalky smell. The color is more straw or amber and not red. The head is mild starting full and slowly fizzing to a small amount keeping the beer covered.

The taste is sweet, with honey like flavors. The malt also has a grainy taste added with the honey flavor. There is little hop flavor, just a hint of bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium full adding thickness to the honey taste. The finish is sweet.

There is nothing wrong with this beer, just nothing special either. It's sweeter than most beers, but the honey taste makes the sweetness seem appropriate. The honey taste is achieved using a honey malt and not real honey, all the sugar in honey ferments away leaving very little flavor.
